We make 3D printed plaques of your journeys across the planet. Maybe it's a marathon you ran, a multi-day hike with your friends, a roadtrip across a country or anything where you travelled across a piece of the Earth. It's like a photograph but for your journey.
Each plaque is tailored and custom-made for your trip with your tracks printed as a ridge on the landscape.
Dimensions: The landscape is printed on a 16.5 by 16.5 cm square with a small rectangular label below. The minimum model thickness is 1.4 cm and varies according to the height of the terrain.
Features: You can engrave a short message into the back of the model, perfect for a little gift message or the stats of your adventure. You can hang the model on your wall thanks to an integrated hanging hole. It also comes with a wooden stand so that you can show off your travels to people walking past your desk.
Colours: By default we print the landscape in white and the route in red. We found that white was the best at showing off the topography under various lighting conditions and gives space for the model to speak for itself. If you really want a different colour for the landscape or route, we can talk. We can also colour large bodies of water in blue if you'd like that.
Pick an area between 5 and 50 square kilometres to produce the most eye-catching models. Similarly, mountainous (rather than flat) regions allow for the landscape to really shine.
We found that areas too large come out “flat”. See the pics below for a better idea of what this means. We can fix this to some extent by exaggerating the topography, but the landscape will never be as dramatic as models of smaller mountainous areas.
Areas too small struggle to have good detail as most of the data we use to generate the landscape has a resolution of 30 meters.
The highest peaks in Vietnam are over 1500 m higher than Lago de Atitlán, but don't appear as dramatically because of the larger area. The Vietnam model is about 1700 square kilometers whereas the Lago de Atitlán is only around 35. Furthermore, the topography of Vietnam was exaggerated by nearly a factor of 10. Atitlán was untouched.
Please note that due to how the models are made, there can be small imperfections such as printing lines being visible and/or uneven as well as interfaces between colours having gaps.
A Journeygraph model is priced at £85 and a model without a route is reduced to £58.50
We also offer a discount if you order several of the same model, as making the first model is always the most labour intensive. You can get 20% off your order of two identical models and 25% off for three or more.
We offer student discounts upon request.
We are very conscious that selling stuff made of plastic is not the best thing to be doing for the planet right now. To minimise our impact (and ease our conscience) we make sure that all the plastics we use are from non-fossil fuel sources and biodegradable at minimum. The material we use for some colours is made from over 80% recycled waste. Due to technical issues, we can't currently use that material for everything but are working on it.
We don't just look at what the plastic is made from but also care about the carbon footprint of our suppliers' supply chains. As an example, when comparing two suppliers for a near-identical product, both were “made in the UK”, both claimed to source their packaging responsibly. We dug a little more and found that one supplier used a packaging company that also sourced their raw materials locally, giving us a winner.
